Erupata Compassion Project Empowers Caregivers through Poultry Farming
In September 2025, joy and excitement filled the air at Erupata Compassion Project in Narok County as 32 caregivers from the Survival Program received a life-changing boost — each was issued with 14 improved Kienyeji chickens. The initiative, funded through the project’s economic empowerment kitty, marks a significant milestone in strengthening household livelihoods and improving nutrition among caregivers and their families.

The two-month-old chicks, sourced from a reputable large-scale poultry farmer in Kajiado County after a competitive market assessment, came fully vaccinated — enabling caregivers to start their ventures without additional vaccination costs. Alongside this support, the caregivers were also trained on modern poultry management practices to ensure success and sustainability of their new agribusinesses.

The Survival Program, one of the flagship interventions under Compassion-assisted projects, focuses on expectant and lactating mothers. It supports them holistically — physically, economically, and spiritually — ensuring both mothers and their infants thrive. Through mentorship, health education, and spiritual guidance, the program works to build strong, resilient families from pregnancy through early childhood.

The introduction of poultry farming among caregivers reflects Erupata’s commitment to fostering self-reliance and long-term wellbeing. Eggs from the chickens will provide families with a consistent source of high-quality protein, boosting children’s nutrition while also generating income from surplus sales. This dual benefit — improved nutrition and economic empowerment — is at the heart of the project’s vision for sustainable community transformation.

Beyond the tangible benefits, the initiative has uplifted caregivers’ confidence and restored a sense of dignity and purpose. By supporting them to run small-scale enterprises, Erupata Compassion Project is helping families break cycles of dependence and poverty.

This milestone is a testament to the long-standing partnership between ADS SR and Compassion International, whose unwavering support over the years has enabled countless families in Narok County to live healthier and more empowered lives. Through Compassion’s continued investment in holistic child and family development, Erupata has been able to bring hope and lasting impact to the most vulnerable members of the community.

In this initial phase, 32 caregivers from the Survival Program and 7 Highly Vulnerable Children have benefited from the poultry support. Within the next two to three months, the chickens are expected to begin laying eggs — marking the start of a new chapter in economic and nutritional improvement for these households.

As the project looks to the future, it plans to expand similar livelihood initiatives to more caregivers based on need and interest. By empowering caregivers today, Erupata Compassion Project is sowing seeds of resilience, health, and hope for generations to come.
